Innovative ways of overcoming the challenges of training in today's environment to make sure that money and time spent maximizes value.

We have heard it a thousand times - "training and educating your workforce is a critical element to improving productivity, efficiency, and employee moral." So do we conduct as much training as we should? Moreover, when we do make the financial commitment to training, how can we best determine if the training offered has value?

We all recognize that we do not just wake up with an acute understanding of the intricacies of the printing process or the latest productivity shortcuts in graphics software. No, we at least have to read a manual, learn by trial-and-error, . . . or most likely, have a more "experienced" person train us. Experience, however, is relative and how that knowledge is relayed can vary greatly. Thus, the need for more "formalized training programs" exists.

Formalized Training

A good formalized training program is a comprehensive program that consists of pre-assessment followed by training that includes practice activities and concludes with post-assessment and remediation. The practice activities occur during the training to help reinforce what is being taught and to ensure that the learner is actually "getting it." Review of each trainee's post-assessment allows the trainer to determine who is excelling or falling behind. The trainer can then assign specific remediation activities to help bring those behind up to speed and take those who are excelling to the next step. The post-assessment is also a good self-assessment tool for the trainer. For example, if everyone is struggling on the same item in the post-assessment, the trainer should then evaluate if the item is written poorly or if the training material that covers that item is ineffective. Of course, the benefits of a more formalized training program seem pretty logical and yet we still do not implement them as often as we should. Cost (especially in a slower economy) and time (to develop and implement a training curriculum) are the two biggest factors. Then there are the challenges of training multiple shifts. Not to mention the concern of training employees only to see them leave to work for a competitor (on the other hand, what if you don't train them, and they stay?!).

So how can you incorporate a more formalized training program into your workforce and make training more feasible in today's environment? More importantly, how can you accomplish this while making sure that the money and time spent maximizes the value gained? APR offers several solutions and will work with you to help come up with a program that works for you.

Custom Training

APR offers custom in-house training seminars for flexo and gravure printers designed to meet their specific needs for continual improvement. It has been proven by numerous studies that training is a major contributor to attracting and retaining key employees.

"Blended" Learning

Today's technological advancements have given us a completely new toolset to provide more efficient, cost effective, and customizable solutions to meet many training requirements.

The term "blended learning" is used to describe a solution that combines several different delivery methods, such as collaboration software, Web-based courses, and knowledge management practices along with many event-based activities, including face-to-face classrooms, live e-learning, and self-paced learning.

At APR, we have begun incorporating blended based learning programs into our training offerings, such as webinars, self-paced online courses, online activities for pre and post-training, and utilization of state-of-the-art press simulators.

Pricing & Expenses

Training rates depend on the scope of the project, number of trainers and time required to successfully meet requirements.
